PROCESS TIMELINE
Our process timeline is divided by week and documents the different stages of our project.

WEEK 16
Research
We went to the garden and documented our experience through lots of photos and videos, observations, and maps.
Our research focused on 3 parts of the garden experience:
1. The wall which hides the garden from the ‘outside world’
2. The glasshouses and their inviting structures
3. The navigation difficulty in visually locating and identifying plants within the medicinal plant collection

Week 18
Prototyping
During our prototyping phase, we tested our design concept using various materials like acrylic, resin, water crystal beads and soil. Our collaborators’ feedback throughout this helped us change and refine our ideas.
Resin Prototype
Our collaborator Xinyu managed to help us prototype a block of resin at the RCA so that we could test the material and shape and use it in our concept image.
Paper Flower
At the end of week 17, we learned that we cannot use resin at LCC and were suggested to use crystal water beads as an alternative. We had to find a real flower instead but we had fun making the paper replica.
Making Acrylic Boxes
We made two acrylic boxes at the 3D Workshop to prototype our concept. We sealed the inside of the cube with silicone to make it leak-proof since it would contain the water beads.
Filling and testing the boxes
The flower we used in our physical prototypes represents St John’s wort and the other plants around it which we could not visually find during our garden experience.

Photographing the Prototypes,
We booked the 3D Table Top studio to photograph the prototypes for our concept image and design mockups. We were assisted by Fan, one of our collaborators.
Mockups
We made some mockups on Photoshop early on before we prototyped the boxes.
After photographing them, we created better mockups for the final presentation.

WEEK 17
Ideation
Yuhan and I did some brainstorming and sketched out various ideas. As we narrowed down the concept we did secondary research on St John’s wort and found its life cycle and growing conditions more interesting to explore.

WEEK 19
Concept Refinement and Presentations
We spent the last week of the project refining our ideas with Xinyu and Kaman and even did some last minute prototyping and testing before the final presentation.
